Your domain name needs to "point" to our server before visitors can see your website. This is done with a DNS record called an A record.
Step 1: Find our server IP address
Log in to your dashboard, open My Websites and click the domain you added. The page shows the public IP address of the server your account is on. Copy it exactly.
Step 2: Log in to your domain registrar
This is the company where you bought the domain (for example GoDaddy, Namecheap, Hostinger, BigRock or Google Domains). Open the DNS management or Manage DNS section for your domain.
Step 3: Add or edit the A record
Create an A record with these values:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | A |
| Host / Name | @ (this means the root domain, e.g. example.com) |
| Value / Points to | the server IP address from Step 1 |
| TTL | leave the default, or 3600 |
If an A record for @ already exists and points somewhere else, edit it instead of adding a second one.
Step 4: Add the www record
Most people also want www.example.com to work. See the separate article How to set up the www version of your website.
Step 5: Wait for DNS to update
DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours to spread across the internet. Your dashboard shows a check mark once the domain resolves to our server. Free SSL is issued automatically after that.
Note: Changing DNS does not move your website files. If your site is currently hosted elsewhere, request a migration before changing the DNS so there is no downtime.
