Moving a website from another host is often the hardest part of switching. We do it for you, free of charge, for the number of websites included in your plan (one website on the Starter plan).
What we need from you
- The domain of the website to be moved.
- The name of your current hosting provider.
- The type of website (WordPress, other PHP site, or static HTML).
- Access details: either a backup file you upload, or temporary login details for the old hosting control panel or FTP plus the database.
- Your preferred date, if you have one.
Submit these through Migration Requests in your dashboard. The credentials field is encrypted, only visible to the team member doing the migration, and deleted when the migration is complete. Please do not send passwords in ordinary support messages or email.
What we do
- We copy your files and database to your new hosting account.
- We adjust the configuration (for WordPress, the database settings and site URL).
- We test the site on our server using a temporary address and send you a link to check it.
- When you are happy, we tell you exactly which DNS records to change.
- After the DNS change, we issue the free SSL certificate and do a final check.
What is not included
- Rebuilding or redesigning the website.
- Fixing bugs that already exist in the website code.
- Moving email accounts (we will tell you how to handle email before you move).
- Websites larger than your plan's storage limit. We will tell you before starting if this is a problem.
Timing
Most migrations are completed within one to three working days from the time we have everything we need. Larger sites can take longer, and we will keep you updated in the migration request.
